YTA Unveils New Leadership, Programs for 41st Season

**Young Texas Artists Launches 41st Season with New Leadership, Landmark University Partnership, and Artist Career Development Program**

**THE WOODLANDS, TX** – The Young Texas Artists (YTA) organization officially marked the beginning of its 41st season with a “Classic Cabaret” event this past Saturday, October 28, 2023, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center. The evening served not only as a celebration of four decades of artistic excellence but also as a platform to unveil significant strategic shifts and new initiatives designed to propel the organization and its talented young artists into the future.

The celebratory fundraiser brought together YTA supporters, past leaders, and arts enthusiasts for an elegant seated dinner. Guests enjoyed a captivating performance by acclaimed vocalist Dr. Kenneth Gayle, known for his diverse range and commanding stage presence. A silent auction further contributed to the evening’s fundraising efforts, all aimed at supporting YTA’s expanded programs for the upcoming season. The event also offered an opportunity to recognize past presidents and key supporters whose dedication has been instrumental in YTA’s enduring legacy.

Central to the evening’s announcements was a significant change in leadership. Michael Frank has stepped into the role of Executive Director, bringing a wealth of experience in arts administration and a deep passion for nurturing young talent. He is joined by Dr. Stephen Head, who assumes the presidency of the YTA Board of Directors. Dr. Head, a prominent figure in education and community leadership, is poised to guide the board through this period of expansion.

“I am incredibly honored to join Young Texas Artists at such a pivotal moment,” said Michael Frank. “Our 41st season is not just about continuing a tradition; it’s about innovating and expanding our reach to provide even more meaningful support for the next generation of classical musicians. With Dr. Head’s leadership on the board and the enthusiasm of our entire team, we are ready to build on YTA’s strong foundation.”

Dr. Head echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to artistic growth. “YTA has a remarkable history of identifying and showcasing exceptional young artists from across Texas. As President of the Board, I look forward to working closely with Michael and our dedicated board members to ensure YTA remains a vital resource for emerging talent, offering them unparalleled opportunities to hone their craft and launch their careers.”

One of the most anticipated announcements of the night concerned the annual YTA Finals Concert & Awards. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 9, 2024, as the state’s most promising young classical artists will compete for top honors and substantial prize money. This year, the prestigious finals are moving to a new, state-of-the-art venue: the Van Cliburn Performance Hall at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

This relocation is more than just a change of address; it signifies a brand-new, comprehensive partnership with Texas A&M University-Commerce. This collaboration will extend beyond hosting the annual competition, integrating YTA’s mission with the university’s robust music programs and academic resources. The Van Cliburn Performance Hall, renowned for its exceptional acoustics and design, provides an inspiring backdrop for the young artists to showcase their skills.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Texas A&M University-Commerce,” Frank explained. “This collaboration is a game-changer for YTA. It not only provides a world-class venue for our finals but also opens doors for our artists to engage with an academic environment rich in musical tradition and innovation. We believe this partnership will significantly elevate the YTA experience for both competitors and audiences.”

The partnership with Texas A&M University-Commerce is also a cornerstone of YTA’s most ambitious new undertaking: the YTA Career Development Program, set to launch in 2024. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to bridge the often-challenging gap between academic training and a sustainable professional career in the arts.

The program will offer a comprehensive suite of resources, including workshops on crucial financial literacy, effective marketing and self-promotion strategies, and practical business skills vital for independent artists. Beyond theoretical training, it will provide tangible performance opportunities, mentorship from established professionals, and even short-term residencies in various Texas communities. The vision is for YTA winners to not only receive an award but to actively engage in teaching and performing throughout the state as part of this new initiative, gaining invaluable real-world experience and building their professional networks.

“The Career Development Program is a direct response to the evolving needs of young classical musicians,” said Dr. Head. “It’s not enough to just be technically brilliant; artists today need a diverse skill set to thrive. This program will equip our winners with the tools, knowledge, and practical experience necessary to transform their talent into a viable and fulfilling career, becoming ambassadors for classical music in communities across Texas.”

Since its inception, Young Texas Artists has been dedicated to discovering, encouraging, and showcasing the best young classical musicians in Texas. Through its annual competition, the organization has provided a vital platform for emerging artists specializing in voice, piano, strings, and winds, many of whom have gone on to achieve national and international acclaim. The organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, relies on community support, grants, and dedicated volunteers to fulfill its mission.

With new leadership, a prestigious university partnership, and an innovative career development program, Young Texas Artists is not just celebrating its past but boldly stepping into a future where it can provide even greater impact and opportunity for the next generation of classical music stars.
