The Woodlands Waterway Cleanup Saturday

**The Woodlands Calls for Volunteers to Keep Waterways Pristine This Saturday**

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Township is gearing up for its bi-annual waterway cleanup this Saturday, September 9, 2023, and is urging community members to lend a hand in preserving the beauty and health of the community’s cherished aquatic ecosystems. Volunteers are invited to gather at the Riva Row Boat House, located at 2101 Riva Row, at 8 a.m., with the cleanup running until 11 a.m.

From the central meeting point, teams will be dispatched to various critical areas, including the expansive Lake Woodlands, the bustling Woodlands Waterway, and numerous local ponds and streams that define the natural landscape of the community. The primary objective is to meticulously remove litter and debris, ensuring these vital waterways remain vibrant, healthy, and enjoyable for residents and wildlife alike.

The initiative is a cornerstone of The Woodlands Township’s Environmental Services Department’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. “Our waterways are not just scenic backdrops; they are essential habitats and vital recreational spaces that contribute significantly to our community’s quality of life,” stated John Smith (fictional name for example purposes), Environmental Services Manager for The Woodlands Township. “These cleanups are incredibly impactful, not just in the visible removal of trash, but in fostering a sense of shared responsibility and environmental awareness among our residents. We see everything from plastic bottles to discarded packaging, and every piece removed makes a difference.”

The Township emphasizes the importance of preregistration for all participants. The deadline to sign up online is fast approaching: Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 5 p.m. Interested individuals, families, and community groups can find the registration link and more information on The Woodlands Township website, usually under the Environmental Services or Parks and Recreation sections.

Participants are advised to come prepared for an active morning. Suggested attire includes long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes to protect against sun, insects, and potential hazards. Volunteers should also bring their own reusable water bottles to stay hydrated, as well as sunscreen and insect repellent. The Township will provide essential tools for the cleanup, including gloves, trash bags, and additional bug spray and water on-site.

While all ages are welcome to participate in this impactful community event, individuals under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The collective effort not only beautifies the environment but also plays a crucial role in preventing pollution from entering larger water systems, supporting local biodiversity, and maintaining the unique aesthetic of The Woodlands.

For any additional questions or further details regarding the cleanup, residents are encouraged to reach out to the Environmental Services Department directly by emailing environmental@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov or by calling 281-210-3900.
