The Woodlands Township Board Election Results

The Woodlands, TX – The Woodlands Township has officially certified the results of its November 7 Board of Directors election, confirming the victory of four candidates who will serve two-year terms. The election saw a notably low voter turnout of 11.34%, with only 9,786 of 86,281 registered voters casting ballots across Montgomery and Harris counties.

The Township Board of Directors is the governing body for The Woodlands, overseeing essential services such as parks and recreation, law enforcement contracts, fire protection, solid waste, and covenant enforcement. Its decisions significantly impact the quality of life and development within the master-planned community.

For Position 1, Brad Bailey secured his seat unopposed, marking his official election after having previously been appointed to the board in November 2022 to fill an unexpired term. His election ensures continuity in leadership.

In the race for Position 2, Kyle Watson emerged victorious, securing 3,741 votes (44.97%). He successfully contended against Walter Lisiewski, who garnered 3,061 votes (36.82%), and Jimmie Dotson, who received 1,507 votes (18.12%).

Position 3, a more competitive race with five candidates, was won by John Anthony Brown. Brown received 2,367 votes (27.67%), edging out Chris Brady (2,217 votes, 25.92%), David Nelson (1,847 votes, 21.59%), Deborah Zeleya (1,061 votes, 12.4%), and John Wertz (1,019 votes, 11.91%).

Finally, for Position 4, Rich O’Sullivan claimed victory with 3,420 votes (40.54%). He defeated Steven Lawrence, who secured 2,757 votes (32.69%), and Laura McConnell, who garnered 2,260 votes (26.79%).

The low voter turnout rate of 11.34% is a common characteristic of many local elections, often attributed to less publicity compared to state or national races, and a perception among some voters that local decisions have less immediate impact. However, local civic leaders consistently emphasize the direct influence of such boards on daily community life and long-term planning.

These four directors, who will each serve a two-year term, will join the three existing members to form the seven-member board. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 20, where they will officially take their oaths of office and begin their terms.

The election process involved voting at 13 designated polling locations spread across both Montgomery and Harris counties, reflecting the geographical reach of The Woodlands Township. Official results were certified on November 16.
