The Woodlands Shooting Suspect Identified & Charged

**Suspect Identified, Facing Capital Murder and Assault Charges After Deadly The Woodlands Apartment Shooting and Officer-Involved Incident**

THE WOODLANDS, TX – A 34-year-old man has been identified and charged with capital murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault following a deadly shooting early Thursday morning at The Preserve at Research Forest Apartments, which also led to an officer-involved shooting.

Garrett Wayne Miller faces charges of Capital Murder for the death of 29-year-old Justin Ryan Boudreaux, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for injuring 29-year-old Anthony James Bell, and Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer for firing at deputies. His bond has been set at $1.5 million.

The incident unfolded shortly after 1:40 AM on Thursday, May 23rd, when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies were dispatched to The Preserve at Research Forest Apartments, located at 1495 Research Forest Drive, responding to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two men, Boudreaux and Bell, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Boudreaux was pronounced deceased at the scene. Bell was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

As deputies began investigating the chaotic scene, they encountered Miller. During this interaction, Miller allegedly discharged a firearm at the deputies. The law enforcement officers returned fire, striking Miller. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit have been actively working the case. According to MCSO officials, preliminary findings suggest that Miller was involved in a narcotics transaction with Boudreaux and Bell. An argument reportedly escalated during this transaction, at which point Miller allegedly opened fire on both men.

In addition to the MCSO’s ongoing investigation into the initial shooting and homicide, the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure for independent review when law enforcement officers discharge their weapons.

Miller remains hospitalized under guard and will be booked into the Montgomery County Jail upon his release from medical care. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released further details regarding the nature of the narcotics transaction or the specific circumstances that led to the altercation.
