Spring Man Faces Kidnapping, Assault Charges

**Spring Man Accused of Aggravated Kidnapping, Sexual Assault in The Woodlands Incident; Held on $1 Million Bond**

SPRING, TX – A Spring man is being held on a $1 million bond in the Montgomery County Jail after being accused of severely violent crimes, including aggravated kidnapping, sexual assault, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, against a 40-year-old woman.

Mark David Stovall, 59, was arrested on April 3, 2024, following an investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office into an incident that reportedly began in The Woodlands. He faces two major charges: Aggravated Kidnapping, a First-Degree Felony, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Second-Degree Felony.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged crimes unfolded on March 28, 2024. Stovall is accused of holding the victim captive for several hours at a residence in The Woodlands. During this time, he allegedly sexually assaulted her while threatening her with a handgun. The allegations further state that Stovall then moved the woman to a different location – a storage unit in Spring, also within Montgomery County – where he continued to hold her against her will.

The victim ultimately managed to escape her captor and immediately sought help, prompting a rapid response from local authorities. Patrol deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were the first on the scene, responding to the distress call. The gravity of the allegations quickly led Homicide/Violent Crimes Detectives to take over the investigation. Their thorough work led to Stovall’s arrest at his home in Spring on April 3.

Stovall was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack initially set his bond at $500,000 for each charge, totaling $1 million. A bond hearing was subsequently held on April 10, 2024. After hearing arguments from both the Sheriff’s Office detectives and representatives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Judge Mack upheld the $1 million bond, citing the grave nature of the alleged offenses and the potential danger to the community.

In Texas, a First-Degree Felony, such as Aggravated Kidnapping, carries a potential punishment of 5 to 99 years or life in prison, along with a fine of up to $10,000. A Second-Degree Felony, like Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Stovall remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and expects a Montgomery County Grand Jury to indict Stovall on these charges in the coming weeks.

*This is an ongoing investigation, and details may change. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.*
