Robert Bruce III dies in Woodlands pedestrian crash

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands community is grappling with profound grief following the tragic death of beloved educator and coach Robert Bruce III, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident early Sunday, December 17, 2023. Bruce, 35, was a respected figure across local educational and athletic institutions, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.

Montgomery County authorities reported that Bruce was walking on Lake Woodlands Drive, just west of Grogan’s Mill Road, around 1:30 AM Sunday morning when he was struck by a gray Lexus SUV. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement. Investigators stated that neither alcohol nor drug impairment is suspected on the part of the driver.

Bruce was quickly transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, but despite efforts to save him, he passed away later that Sunday afternoon due to his injuries. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities, though no charges are anticipated at this time.

A Celebration of Life to honor Robert Bruce III is scheduled for Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM at The Woodlands Methodist Church, located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive. Following the service, a reception will be held at North Shore Park, providing an opportunity for friends, family, and former students to gather, share memories, and support one another.
