MCSO Retail Theft Operation: 3 Arrests, $4K Recovered

**Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Cracks Down on Organized Retail Crime in The Woodlands, Recovers Over $4,000 in Stolen Goods**

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Crime Reduction Unit conducted a targeted retail theft operation at the Target store located at 1100 Lake Woodlands Drive on January 11, 2024, resulting in three arrests and the recovery of more than $4,000 worth of stolen merchandise. The operation underscores the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to combat the growing problem of organized retail crime within the community.

During the proactive enforcement initiative, deputies focused on identifying and apprehending individuals involved in large-scale retail theft. Organized retail crime, a trend increasingly impacting retailers nationwide, often involves sophisticated rings that steal merchandise for resale, contributing to higher prices for consumers and significant losses for businesses.

Arrested during the operation were three individuals, all from Houston:

* **Keidra Denae Butler**, 30, was charged with Felony Theft of Property valued between $2,500 and $30,000, Misdemeanor Theft of Property between $100 and $750, and Evading Arrest.
* **Laila Mae Roberson**, 23, faced charges of Felony Theft of Property ($2,500-$30,000) and Misdemeanor Theft of Property ($100-$750).
* **Trevon Johnson**, 23, was charged with Misdemeanor Theft of Property ($100-$750).

The Crime Reduction Unit regularly conducts such operations throughout Montgomery County, working in conjunction with local businesses to deter theft and apprehend repeat offenders. These specialized units aim to disrupt criminal networks that profit from stolen goods, which not only impacts store profitability but also can create unsafe environments for shoppers and employees.

Sheriff Rand Henderson emphasized the importance of these targeted operations. “These actions help keep our community safe and our businesses protected,” Sheriff Henderson stated. “Organized retail crime is not just a minor issue; it’s a significant problem that drives up costs for everyone and can undermine the economic stability of our retail sector. We are committed to working diligently to identify and prosecute those who engage in these criminal activities.”

Retail theft, particularly organized schemes, has seen a notable increase across Texas and the nation, prompting law enforcement agencies to dedicate specialized resources to address the issue. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to partner with retailers and community members to share information and implement strategies designed to reduce these types of crimes. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
