**Montgomery County Gears Up for Crucial Household Hazardous Waste and Tire Recycling Event**

**SHENANDOAH, TX – April 10, 2024** – Montgomery County residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for a crucial opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of household hazardous waste, electronics, tires, and sensitive documents. The County’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Tire Recycling event is scheduled for **Saturday, April 20, 2024**, offering a vital service for environmental protection and public safety.

The event will be held at **Woodforest Stadium, located at 19115 David Memorial Drive in Shenandoah, Texas**. Doors open from **9:00 AM to 2:00 PM** that day, rain or shine.

This service is exclusively for **Montgomery County residents**, who will need to present proof of residency, such as a valid driver’s license or a current utility bill, to participate.

Improper disposal of household hazardous waste can lead to serious environmental contamination, polluting soil and groundwater, and posing significant health risks to communities. Items like old paints, used motor oil, and pesticides can leach into natural ecosystems if simply thrown into regular trash bins or poured down drains. This event provides a controlled and safe method for these materials to be handled by trained professionals.

“Providing a safe and accessible way for our residents to dispose of hazardous materials is not just a convenience; it’s an environmental imperative,” stated a representative from Montgomery County Precinct 2. “These materials, if not handled properly, can have long-lasting negative impacts on our community’s health and natural resources. This annual event underscores our commitment to a cleaner, safer Montgomery County.”

**Accepted Items Include:**

* **Household Hazardous Waste:** A wide array of items can be dropped off, including old paints, stains, paint thinners, used motor oil, antifreeze, car batteries, household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, and both automotive and household batteries. Fluorescent light bulbs are also accepted.
* **Tires:** Residents can bring up to eight passenger car or light truck tires. Please note that tractor tires or any commercial loads cannot be accepted.
* **Electronics:** Old computers, televisions, cell phones, and small appliances that are gathering dust can find a new life through recycling. A **$10 fee** will apply for the disposal of older CRT (cathode ray tube) or “tube” style televisions due to their specialized processing requirements.
* **Paper Shredding:** For those with sensitive documents, up to five boxes or bags of paper can be brought for secure shredding, helping to prevent identity theft.

**Items That Cannot Be Accepted:**

To ensure the safety of all participants and staff, certain items are strictly prohibited. These include ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, medical waste or pharmaceuticals, propane bottles, asbestos, any commercial waste, and large appliances.

This comprehensive recycling initiative is a collaborative effort, bringing together Montgomery County Precinct 2, The Woodlands Township, and Waste Management of Texas. These partnerships are crucial in mobilizing the resources and expertise needed to manage such a large-scale collection and recycling operation.

Residents are encouraged to sort their materials before arriving at the event to help ensure a smooth and efficient process. For more information regarding the event, including specific guidelines for packaging materials, residents may visit their respective municipal or county websites, such as montgomerycountytx.gov or thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov, closer to the event date.
