Devin Johnson Charged with Attempted Capital Murder

CONROE, Texas – Authorities in Montgomery County have announced that Devin Maurice Johnson has been charged with Attempted Capital Murder, stemming from a shooting incident that occurred on August 13, 2023, along a busy stretch of I-45 North.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 12000 block of I-45 North, an area south of Conroe often identified with Spring and The Woodlands communities, that Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim who had been shot multiple times. Thankfully, the victim was reported to be in stable condition following the attack.

Investigators believe the violent encounter began with an argument in the Spring/Woodlands area. This dispute allegedly escalated, culminating in the victim being shot multiple times while driving. After the shooting, Johnson reportedly fled the scene.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation into the incident. Their work involved a close collaboration with both the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and U.S. Marshals. Through meticulous efforts, which included analyzing witness statements and phone records, investigators were able to identify Devin Maurice Johnson as the primary suspect.

Their concerted efforts paid off swiftly. Johnson was successfully located and arrested in Houston on September 1, 2023, just shy of three weeks after the shooting.

Johnson is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail, facing the charge of Attempted Capital Murder. His bond has been set at a substantial one million dollars, reflecting the severe nature of the alleged crime. Attempted Capital Murder is a first-degree felony in Texas, indicating the gravity of the allegations against Johnson.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released further details regarding the specific nature of the argument or any other potential motives.
