Area Thefts & Police Pursuits Lead to Arrests

Conroe, Texas – A late-night pursuit of a stolen Maserati Ghibli on Saturday, May 25, resulted in the arrest of one individual and has further illuminated a series of vehicle thefts and evasions plaguing Montgomery County and surrounding areas. The incident marks another successful apprehension by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies in their ongoing efforts to combat property crime.

Around 11:30 PM, MCSO deputies spotted the stolen luxury sedan, a Maserati Ghibli, speeding down I-45 near Conroe. When attempts were made to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Robert Earl Jenkins Jr., refused to comply, leading deputies on a high-speed chase. The pursuit traveled south, exited at Woodlands Parkway, cut over to Kuykendahl Road, and finally concluded at an Exxon station located at Kuykendahl Road and FM 2920. Jenkins abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was quickly tracked and apprehended in a nearby ditch by MCSO K-9 ‘Diesel.’ The passenger, Demarcus Powell, remained with the vehicle at the scene. The Maserati Ghibli was confirmed to have been stolen from Houston. Jenkins now faces charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.

This latest incident comes just days after MCSO deputies concluded another significant pursuit involving a white Infiniti Q50, which authorities believe was instrumental in numerous recent property crimes. These two high-profile cases highlight a growing concern over organized auto thefts and related burglaries in the region.

The Infiniti, which had been stolen from Spring, Texas, was linked to “a whole bunch of auto thefts, burglaries, and several other evading incidents” throughout May. On May 22nd, MCSO deputies successfully tracked down the notorious vehicle. This led to another pursuit, initiating around the Spring Cypress area, which subsequently crossed into Harris County before concluding in north Houston with a foot chase.

Following the apprehension, three individuals were taken into custody in connection with the Infiniti pursuit. Desmond Williams, 21, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Evading. Jonathan Robinson, also 21, faces charges for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Keandre Johnson, 20, was charged with Felony Evading. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that this particular Infiniti had been “a pretty instrumental vehicle in many of the recent property crimes in the area,” making its recovery and the arrests crucial to ongoing investigations.

Sheriff Rand Henderson’s office has been actively investigating a larger string of thefts and pursuits, noting the significant risk these incidents, often involving high-speed chases, pose to public safety. “Our deputies are relentlessly pursuing those who commit these brazen acts,” stated an MCSO spokesperson, “and these arrests send a clear message that property crime will not be tolerated in Montgomery County.” Authorities reiterate their commitment to ensuring community security and encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to the MCSO non-emergency line at (936) 760-5800 or through their anonymous tip line.
