Annual Spring Creek Cleanup Gears Up

**The Woodlands, TX – March 10, 2024** – The Woodlands Township, in a collaborative effort with Harris County Precinct 4 and Montgomery County Precinct 3, is calling on local residents to participate in its Annual Spring Creek Cleanup. Scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, the event offers a vital opportunity to protect and enhance one of the region’s most important natural resources.

Volunteers are invited to convene at Dennis Johnston Park, located at 709 Riley Fuzzel Road in Spring, Texas, to help remove litter and debris from the Spring Creek waterway and its surrounding banks. This local initiative forms a crucial part of the national “Great American Cleanup,” a program organized by Keep America Beautiful, emphasizing community involvement in environmental stewardship. The goal is clear: safeguard local wildlife, improve water quality, and preserve the natural beauty of the Spring Creek ecosystem for current and future generations.

Spring Creek, which serves as a natural boundary between Harris and Montgomery counties, is a critical component of the extensive Spring Creek Greenway – one of the largest urban forested corridors in the nation. This preserved area supports a diverse array of plant and animal life, provides vital flood control, and offers unparalleled recreational opportunities for hiking, biking, and paddling. Regular cleanups are essential to maintaining the health and accessibility of this treasured natural asset.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones highlighted the collective impact of such efforts. “Our Spring Creek is a lifeblood for our community – it’s where families make memories, where wildlife thrives, and where our natural heritage is preserved,” said Commissioner Briones. “By coming together for this cleanup, we’re not just picking up trash; we’re actively investing in the health of our environment and fostering a stronger, more engaged community. Every volunteer makes a tangible difference.”

Echoing this sentiment, Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack underscored the importance of proactive environmental care. “Maintaining the pristine condition of Spring Creek is a responsibility we all share. These annual cleanups are vital for keeping our waterways clean, ensuring wildlife habitats remain undisturbed, and providing a beautiful, healthy environment for our residents,” stated Commissioner Noack. “We encourage everyone to register and join us for a morning of meaningful work that benefits our entire region.”

The event is free and family-friendly, welcoming volunteers of all ages. While participation is open, organizers strongly encourage individuals and groups to register ahead of time to help with planning and ensure adequate supplies. Participants should come prepared for outdoor work, wearing closed-toe shoes and bringing a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and insect repellent. All necessary cleanup supplies, including trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, and first aid, will be provided on-site.

The cleanup is scheduled to proceed rain or shine, embracing the spirit of commitment to the environment. In the event of severe weather, however, cancellation notices will be issued through the official channels of The Woodlands Township, Harris County Precinct 4, and Montgomery County Precinct 3.
