Tomball shooting kills 1, leads to 2 arrests

**Fatal Shooting Outside Downtown Tomball Icehouse Leads to Quick Arrests of Two Suspects**

TOMBALL, TX – A late-night argument outside a popular downtown Tomball icehouse on Friday, May 17th, escalated into a fatal shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead. Authorities moved swiftly, arresting two suspects less than 24 hours later and filing murder and aggravated assault charges.

The incident unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. in the 100 block of W. Main, an area known for its historic charm and revitalized local businesses, including The Icehouse on Main. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, Christian Anthony Sanchez, 22, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the altercation. He was transported to Houston Northwest Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators allege that an argument between Sanchez and Carlos Daniel Mojica, also 22, escalated, culminating in Mojica allegedly firing the shots that killed Sanchez. During the chaotic scene that ensued, Joshua Gabriel Gutierrez, 23, reportedly brandished a handgun and threatened other people present, pointing the weapon at a witness, though he did not fire it. Both Mojica and Gutierrez then fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

The Tomball Police Department initially responded to the call, but the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit took over the primary investigation. Their rapid investigative work led to the identification and apprehension of both suspects the very next day, Saturday, May 18th. Mojica was taken into custody in north Houston, in the 13400 block of Northborough. Gutierrez was apprehended in Spring, from the 22300 block of Rothwood.

Carlos Daniel Mojica has been formally charged with Murder, and Joshua Gabriel Gutierrez faces a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Both suspects are currently being held without bond in the Harris County Jail. They made their initial court appearances on Sunday morning, May 19th, before a magistrate judge.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the incident. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
