Woodlands Board to Discuss FY25 Tax, Road, Safety

The Woodlands Township Board of Directors is set to convene a pivotal meeting this Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 6:00 PM, addressing critical financial, infrastructure, and community development issues. The session, open to the public, will be held in the Board Chambers at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., The Woodlands, TX.

A primary focus for the Directors will be the proposed property tax rates for Fiscal Year 2025. The Board is expected to consider a resolution designating the “Most Efficient Tax Rate” at $0.1800 per $100 of taxable value. This action is a crucial step in the annual budget process. Directors will also discuss authorizing an application to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for certification of both the 2024 No-New-Revenue and Voter-Approval Tax Rates. Furthermore, the Board will weigh a Resolution of Intent to Exceed the No-New-Revenue Tax Rate for Fiscal Year 2025, specifically for maintenance and operations. Exceeding this rate means the Board intends to propose a rate that would generate more property tax revenue than the previous year on existing properties, necessitating public hearings and published notices regarding the proposed 2024 Tax Roll and 2025 Property Tax Rate.

Beyond taxes, a significant infrastructure item on the agenda involves an Interlocal Agreement with the Montgomery County Toll Road Authority (MCTRA). This agreement is for crucial improvements to the Rayford Road and Grand Parkway 99 overpass project, a long-anticipated effort to alleviate traffic congestion in a rapidly growing area of the Township.

Public safety is also slated for a boost, with Directors considering the approval for the purchase of a new ladder truck for The Woodlands Fire Department. This significant capital investment will enhance the department’s capabilities, particularly in responding to incidents involving multi-story structures.

Residents can also anticipate updates on community amenities. The Board will discuss an amendment to the Master Lease Agreement with Howard Hughes Corporation, specifically regarding property designated for the future Recreation Center at May Valley. This center is a key component of the Township’s long-term plan to expand recreational opportunities. Additionally, the Board plans to consider an interlocal agreement with Montgomery County to add more security cameras throughout the Township, aiming to enhance public safety and surveillance.

Environmental initiatives will also be addressed, as directors weigh in on a resolution supporting the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District’s (LSGCD) application for federal funds under the WaterSMART Grant Program. This support underscores the Township’s commitment to sustainable water resource management.

Other agenda items include affirming support for community partners addressing mental and behavioral health needs within the community, as well as approving structural engineering services for maintaining key concert stages located at Northshore Park and Hughes Landing, ensuring their safety and longevity for public events.

As always, the public is welcome to attend the meeting and address the Board on any agenda item, providing an important avenue for community input on these significant decisions.
