**Houston Methodist The Woodlands Begins Construction on $100 Million Medical Office Building to Expand Specialized Care**

**THE WOODLANDS, TX – January 25, 2024** – Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital officially broke ground Thursday on its new Medical Office Building 2 (MOB2), a significant $100 million investment aimed at further expanding specialized healthcare services for the rapidly growing communities of The Woodlands and Montgomery County. The seven-story, 162,000-square-foot facility is projected to open in early 2026.

The celebratory groundbreaking ceremony, held on the hospital’s bustling campus, drew a crowd of community leaders, healthcare professionals, and local dignitaries, all eager to witness the next chapter in the hospital’s impressive growth since its 2017 opening.

“This new Medical Office Building 2 represents more than just a structure; it symbolizes our unwavering commitment to bringing world-class healthcare closer to home for the residents of The Woodlands and surrounding areas,” said Debbie Sukin, CEO of Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital and regional senior vice president, Houston Methodist. “Since opening our doors, we’ve seen incredible growth and an increasing demand for advanced, specialized care. MOB2 will be instrumental in meeting those needs, providing additional physician offices, state-of-the-art outpatient services, and a dedicated breast care center.”

Once complete, MOB2 will significantly enhance the hospital’s capabilities by offering expanded space for physician practices across various specialties. It will also house a comprehensive outpatient services suite designed to streamline patient access to diagnostic and therapeutic care, and a dedicated breast care center, offering advanced screening, diagnosis, and treatment in a compassionate environment. Additionally, the new building will provide more space for Houston Methodist’s robust residency program, nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.

The event was well-attended by local officials, highlighting strong community support for the project. Among those present were Mayor Ann K. Snyder of The Woodlands; Gordy Bunch, Chairman of The Woodlands Township Board of Directors; Gil Staley, CEO of The Woodlands Economic Development Partnership; and Councilman Dale F. Duggi.

Since its opening in 2017 with 186 beds, Houston Methodist The Woodlands has rapidly expanded its footprint and services. The hospital now boasts 290 beds, employs over 2,200 dedicated staff members, and partners with approximately 900 affiliated physicians. This growth trajectory reflects the area’s booming population and the hospital’s dedication to evolving with community needs.

The MOB2 project is expected to generate hundreds of construction jobs over the next two years, followed by the creation of new permanent healthcare positions upon its completion. It is a testament to Houston Methodist’s long-term vision for The Woodlands, positioning the campus as a leading destination for comprehensive, specialized medical care in the region.
