**CONROE, TX –** Montgomery County authorities have announced significant breakthroughs in the murder investigation of Matthew Scott, with two individuals now arrested and charged in connection with his death. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrests of Christian Hernandez and Jose Alfonzo Barcenas Jr., both facing murder charges.

Matthew Scott’s body was discovered on Thursday morning, October 26, 2023, in the Westmont Subdivision area of Conroe, near Loop 336 West and Interstate 45. Officials quickly determined that Scott had died from a gunshot wound, initiating an intensive homicide investigation.

Following days of diligent work, the Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit, supported by several other specialized units and in collaboration with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, identified Hernandez and Barcenas Jr. as the suspects.

Christian Hernandez was apprehended on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Houston. The following day, Monday, October 30, 2023, Jose Alfonzo Barcenas Jr. was taken into custody right here in Conroe. Both men have since been formally charged with murder in connection with Scott’s death.
