THE WOODLANDS, TX – Authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old last week in The Woodlands, following a multi-agency high-speed chase across multiple counties. Christian David Herrera was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 4, and is now facing charges of murder and evading arrest/detention with a vehicle in the death of Jesus Trejo.

The tragic incident unfolded late Thursday, May 30, when deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) were dispatched to the 100 block of Palomino Road in The Woodlands. At approximately 11:30 PM, deputies discovered 17-year-old Jesus Trejo unresponsive inside a vehicle. Despite immediate efforts, Trejo tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Sheriff’s detectives launched an intensive investigation, quickly identifying Herrera as the primary suspect. A murder warrant was promptly secured for his arrest.

The pursuit of Herrera came to a dramatic conclusion on Tuesday, June 4. Law enforcement officials spotted Herrera’s vehicle in the Spring area, prompting a high-speed chase that involved multiple agencies and stretched across significant stretches of Houston’s major roadways. The pursuit escalated, with speeds reportedly exceeding 100 mph as Herrera’s vehicle traversed I-45, the Hardy Toll Road, and Beltway 8. Agencies involved in the coordinated effort included the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Houston Police Department (HPD), and Precinct 4 Constables.

The chase ultimately concluded in the Humble area, near the intersection of FM 1960 and North Houston Avenue, where Herrera’s vehicle was successfully stopped. He was subsequently arrested without further incident.

Christian David Herrera is currently booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He faces felony charges of Murder and Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle. As of Wednesday morning, no bond has been set for the murder charge. He is expected to appear in court for an initial arraignment in the coming days.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released details regarding a potential motive for the shooting or the nature of the relationship between Herrera and Trejo. Sheriff Rand Henderson commended the swift action of his deputies and detectives, as well as the seamless inter-agency cooperation that led to Herrera’s arrest.

The community of The Woodlands has been shaken by the loss of a young life. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information pertinent to the investigation to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800 or Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
