**Harris County Deputy Shot, Suspect Killed in Early Morning Spring Incident**

**SPRING, Texas** – A Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot and wounded, and a suspect was killed following a dramatic exchange of gunfire in Spring early Tuesday morning. The incident, which unfolded around 2:30 AM on March 19th, began when a deputy investigating a stolen vehicle was rammed and then fired upon.

Deputy Christina Lopez, 33, a seven-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, was conducting an investigation in the 200 block of Cypresswood Drive. According to Sheriff’s officials, Lopez had spotted a stolen Chevrolet Silverado near an apartment complex in the residential area. As she approached, the suspect in the truck, identified as 50-year-old John Wesley Williams, allegedly rammed her patrol vehicle.

Following the collision, Williams reportedly opened fire, discharging multiple shots at Deputy Lopez. Lopez returned fire, striking Williams. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2:30 AM.

Deputy Lopez sustained a non-life-threatening injury to her arm. She was transported to Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, where she received treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez issued a statement Tuesday morning, praising Lopez’s bravery. “Our deputies face incredible dangers every day protecting our community,” Sheriff Gonzalez said. “Deputy Lopez showed immense courage in a life-threatening situation. We are thankful her injuries are not critical and wish her a swift recovery.”

Investigators later confirmed that John Wesley Williams was wanted on an active felony warrant for aggravated assault out of Montgomery County, adding a layer of complexity to the suspect’s background.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings. The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division will also conduct a concurrent investigation. The incident will additionally be reviewed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the specific make or model of Deputy Lopez’s patrol vehicle, or the exact number of shots fired by either individual. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
