Mont. Co. Approves New Pct 2 Operations Center

**Montgomery County Commissioners Approve New Precinct 2 Operations Center, Addressing Growth in The Woodlands Area**

**MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – April 24, 2024** – Montgomery County’s rapidly growing population is set to benefit from a significant infrastructure upgrade following the unanimous decision by the Commissioners Court on April 23, 2024, to greenlight a development agreement for a new Precinct 2 Operations Center. This state-of-the-art facility aims to consolidate and modernize essential county services, serving residents in and around The Woodlands.

The new center will be built on a 15-acre parcel of land generously donated by developer Toll Brothers. This land is part of a larger 74-acre tract owned by Toll Brothers, strategically located just south of The Woodlands, near the intersection of Gosling Road and The Woodlands Parkway in the Sterling Ridge area.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley has championed this project for years, citing the urgent need to replace the current, overstretched facilities at 12750 Pine Forest Drive. “Our current operations are bursting at the seams,” Commissioner Riley has frequently stated, highlighting the limitations of the existing site to effectively serve the burgeoning population of Precinct 2.

The modern operations center is designed to house critical county functions, including road and bridge maintenance, solid waste operations, the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, and animal control services. Looking to the future, there are also plans to potentially incorporate a justice court and a tax office sub-station at the new location, further enhancing accessibility for residents.

The funding structure for the project represents a collaborative effort between the private and public sectors. Toll Brothers is not only donating the prime 15-acre site but will also cover the substantial costs of extending Gosling Road past the new center and installing all necessary utilities to the property line. Montgomery County, for its part, will be responsible for the actual building construction, along with associated infrastructure such as parking facilities and fencing. The county’s portion of the project is estimated to cost between $10 million and $15 million, with funding allocated from the voter-approved 2021 road bond.

Officials anticipate breaking ground on the new facility either late this year or in early 2025. Construction is projected to span approximately 12 to 18 months, with an optimistic target of the Precinct 2 Operations Center becoming fully operational by mid-2026. This new center is expected to dramatically improve service efficiency and capacity, providing a modern hub for county operations that will meet the demands of Montgomery County’s continued expansion for decades to come.
