**Montgomery County to Host Mandatory Boater Education Course on April 20**

Montgomery, TX – The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), in cooperation with local authorities, is sponsoring a mandatory Boater Education Course in Montgomery County on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The course aims to equip new and experienced boaters with the essential knowledge and skills for safe operation on Texas public waterways.

This comprehensive course is a legal requirement for individuals born on or after September 1, 1993, who plan to operate a personal watercraft (such as a Jet Ski) or any boat powered by a motor of 15 horsepower or more on public waters. Completion of the course results in the issuance of a Texas Boater Education Certification, which is necessary for legal compliance and demonstrates a commitment to safe boating practices.

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics crucial for safe navigation, including “rules of the road,” navigation aids, emergency procedures, responsible environmental practices, and state-specific boating laws. Participation not only ensures compliance with state regulations but also significantly contributes to reducing accidents and promoting a safer environment for everyone enjoying Texas’s lakes and rivers.

The eight-hour course will be held at the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice Court, located at 400 N. San Jacinto in Montgomery, TX 77356. Doors will open at 7:30 AM, with the instruction beginning promptly at 8:00 AM and concluding at 4:00 PM.

The cost to attend the course and receive the certification is $20. Attendees are reminded to bring a pencil and paper for note-taking, along with their driver’s license for verification. Participants should also plan to bring their own lunch and snacks, as these will not be provided during the day.

With Montgomery County boasting popular destinations like Lake Conroe, local authorities underscore the importance of boater education for the safety of all residents and visitors. The Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Marine Division actively patrols local waterways, ensuring adherence to boating laws and promoting responsible recreation.
