Woodlands Aggravated Assault Indictment

The Woodlands, TX – A 21-year-old man has been formally indicted by a grand jury in connection with an August shooting incident in The Woodlands. Demarcus Williams was indicted on November 14, 2023, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, bringing the case closer to trial.

The indictment by the 435th District Court Grand Jury signifies that, after reviewing the evidence presented by prosecutors, the jury found sufficient probable cause to believe a felony offense occurred and that Demarcus Williams committed it. This is a critical step in the legal process, moving the case from the investigative and charging phase into formal prosecution.

The charges stem from an incident on August 1, 2023, when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 2300 block of South Millbend Drive. Upon arrival, deputies located a victim, identified as Nathaniel Williams, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Witnesses at the scene quickly identified Demarcus Williams as the alleged shooter.

Following the shooting, Demarcus Williams reportedly fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan. MCSO detectives swiftly launched an investigation, identifying him as the primary suspect. Their efforts led to his apprehension just two days later, on August 3, 2023, in the 25700 block of I-45 North in Spring, Texas.

He was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony in Texas, which carries potential penalties including two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Following his arrest, Judge Patty Maginnis set his bond at $100,000.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office will now proceed with prosecuting the case in the 435th District Court. Demarcus Williams is expected to be formally arraigned, where he will enter a plea, and the legal process will continue with discovery, pre-trial hearings, and potentially a trial. The victim’s condition following the shooting has not been publicly updated, but law enforcement confirmed he was treated for the injury.

Information regarding court proceedings and records for Montgomery County cases can be accessed through the District Clerk’s office. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to handle all active investigations and can be contacted for official statements on ongoing cases.
